Anambra 2025: APC says no to zoning formula

opera.com 4 days ago

Vanguard News report that, The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has announced that it will not adopt a zoning formula for the 2025 governorship election. According to the party's Publicity Secretary, Dr. Valentine Iyke-Oliobi, the APC has never been part of any zoning arrangement with other political parties in the state. Instead, the party offers equal opportunities to all members to contest for its ticket, regardless of their zone.

Iyke-Oliobi emphasized that the APC is a progressive party that believes in democratic principles and will not restrict the democratic field to any section of the state. He encouraged aspiring candidates to work hard to gain the acceptance of party members rather than relying on zoning arguments.

The party also disowned a certain Mr. Pope Amaefuna, who claimed to be a chieftain of the APC in Anambra State, describing him as unknown to the party and possibly a "fifth columnist" trying to cause confusion.

By rejecting zoning, the APC has opened up the governorship ticket to all qualified members, regardless of their geographical location within the state. This move is seen as a departure from the traditional practice of rotating power among different regions in the state.

The party's commitment to democratic principles and equal opportunities is seen as a positive development in the lead-up to the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
