Officials from the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency reported this during a briefing in Abuja, attributing the floods to intense rainfall and inadequate drainage.

Earlier predictions from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency identified 148 high-risk and 249 moderate-risk local government areas across several states, including Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, and Anambra. The National Emergency Management Agency identified 11 high-risk local government areas in Anambra State and called for collaborative efforts to mitigate potential impacts during the upcoming rainy season. Government officials emphasized the importance of preparedness and community involvement in preventing and managing flood disasters across Nigeria.
