Super Falcons' head coach, Randy Waldrum, has refuted claims that he was pressured to include forward Francisca Ordega in the squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

As per Nigeria Football, this statement was exclusively disclosed by Ordega on Monday.

The women's football competition featuring 12 nations in Paris is set to commence on July 25, with many teams already revealing their final 18-player rosters and substitutes.

On June 30, an online publication circulated a report suggesting possible tensions within the Super Falcons camp.

The report alleged that two high-ranking officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were trying to enforce the selection of veteran forward Francisca Ordega onto coach Waldrum for the Olympics.

Ordega, who is the second leading goalscorer in the Russian top division with six goals from 12 matches for current leaders CSKA Moscow, expressed feeling deeply embarrassed by the report.

She contacted Coach Waldrum on Sunday seeking clarification, stating, “I was surprised by the news and had to call the coach on Sunday to verify the report.”

Ordega emphasized her respect for him and her disappointment in the allegations made in the media.

Waldrum assured her that he was unaware of such discussions and clarified that it was a mischievous attempt by the media to create controversy.

Ordega even inquired directly if he did not want her on his team, urging him to be honest so she could concentrate on her club career.

She described the situation as highly embarrassing, especially given her dedication and hard work to proudly represent the country.

The nine-time African champions are set to commence their campaign on July 25 against Brazil in Bordeaux.

This marks their comeback to the Olympics after a 16-year absence.
