A retired Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Desmond Agu, has warned against moves to convince the Federal Government to merge the corps with the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, saying it would worsen the security challenges in the country.

Agu, who until his retirement was a commandant in six states, urged the Federal Government to shun any individual lobbying for such a merger, adding that those seeking the merger were ignorant of the roles of NSCDC as a special purpose security vehicle.

Describing the security challenges as multifaceted, he said coordinated multiple approaches were needed to confront them, adding that the NSCDC has filled a significant part of the void.

Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Osun State has called on the state government to allow the use of the Ifa system in the selection of traditional rulers and the kingmakers should be allowed to play their traditional role in the emergence of Obas.

The association urged law enforcement agents to thoroughly investigate and prosecute any individual caught engaging in the act, just as it dissociated its members from illegal acts of ritual killings that have been on the increase across the country lately.

Speaking shortly after his swearing-in for another term of office, the President, Dr Oluseyi Atanda, also disclosed plans to complete work on the Administrative Block at its secretariat located in Abere, in the next 100 days.

“Isese is not associated with ritual killings or money rituals. Anybody caught by law enforcement officers should be thoroughly investigated and if guilty, be prosecuted accordingly.

The Bassa community in Toto Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, is demanding a retraction from Governor Abdullahi Sule for labelling them a militia group.

Mark Jere, Vice Chairman of the Bassa Cultural and Development Union, spoke to journalists in Abuja.

He emphasised that the Bassa people have been victims of attacks by the Egbura, a neighbouring village, which forced them into exile for six years. Jere argued that this history makes the militia label “uncharitable.”

Jere further highlighted the challenges faced by the displaced Bassas in returning home. He expressed concern that the military appears to be siding with the Egbura people.
