Leicester City Confident in Retaining Super Eagles Star Wilfred Ndidi Amid EPL Return

Leicester City, newly promoted to the English Premier League, is hopeful that Super Eagles versatile midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will sign a new deal, according to Soccernet.ng.

Ndidi, 27, joined the Foxes in 2017 and has had a successful tenure, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield under Brendan Rodgers in 2021, and the EFL Championship with Enzo Maresca in 2024.

Despite his accomplishments, Ndidi's contract expired at the end of last month after he turned down repeated extension offers from the club. As a free agent, he has been linked with several clubs.

However, The Telegraph reports that Leicester City is still in talks with Ndidi and remains confident in securing his signature. The club’s new manager, Steve Cooper, appointed on June 20, hopes to finalize his transfer targets before the Premier League season begins.

The Foxes have already signed Caleb Okoli, a promising Atalanta defender, and Fulham's Jamaican winger Bobby De Cordova-Reid. Given their recent charges for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in March, which could lead to a points deduction, Leicester is keen to retain Ndidi rather than spend more in the transfer market.

Meanwhile, Ndidi's compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho, has yet to announce his plans for next season. Linked to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, his future remains uncertain.
