According to Vanguard, The All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a challenge to Governor Godwin Obaseki, urging him to walk the streets of Benin City with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo. This bold dare was made during the inauguration of local government and ward campaign councils in Oredo Local Government Area. The APC implied that such a walk would result in a hostile reception for Obaseki, reflecting his disconnect with the populace. The statement, meant to underscore the governor's unpopularity, was a pointed remark on the political climate in the region.

The APC also addressed internal party matters, urging members still disgruntled by the results of the governorship primaries to unite behind their candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The call for unity was emphasized as crucial for the party's success in the upcoming elections. Dennis Idahosa, the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, highlighted the importance of coming together as a "united family" to secure victory, stressing that internal divisions could undermine their electoral chances.

Idahosa further outlined the APC's campaign promises, vowing that a new APC administration would build on the legacy of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole. He pledged to continue efforts in flood control, rebuilding public schools, and tackling issues like insecurity and cultism. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining respect for traditional institutions, drawing a clear contrast with the current administration's policies and achievements.

Reflecting on the political dynamics, Idahosa took a direct swipe at Governor Obaseki, suggesting that his nearly eight-year tenure had distanced him from the people. He contrasted this with the legacy of Oshiomhole, who, despite being out of office for eight years, is still seen as more in touch with the electorate. The challenge to Obaseki to publicly campaign alongside Ighodalo was framed as a test of his popularity and connection with the people of Benin City and beyond.

He said: “We want Obaseki to take the hands of his candidate, Asue Ighodalo and walk round the streets of Benin City and other places in the state and Oshiomhole will take the hand of Okpebholo and do the same thing and see what will happen. If Obaseki does not wear a helmet, he will come back bleeding because he is completely disconnected from the people.
