The Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, has disclosed that any form of intercourse with a boy or a girl who is below 13 years of age is regarded as defilement, stating it clearly that the punishment for such offence if found guilty is life imprisonment.
Speaking further, SP Edafe made it known that Section 218 CC of the constitution made it known that consent is immaterial in this case, noting that going to court and swearing to won't work any longer.
The Delta Police Spokesperson made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle on Sunday evening. He went on and noted that any parent who tries to cover defilement could also be charged to court, for aiding and abetting.
SP Bright Edafe wrote: "Intercourse with either a boy or a girl under the age of 13 years is defilement and the punishment if found guilty is life Imprisonment. Section 218 CC. In this case, consent is immaterial and such offences can't be compounded.
"So going to court and swearing to an affidavit won't work. In fact any parent who tries to cover defilement could be charged to court for aiding and abetting."
