According to the report from the Sun, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr. Kasim Mohammed Kasim argues that power shift agitation, which is based on regional, ethnic, and religious affiliations, is causing tension in the country. He points out that names and religions are being used as markers of identity, and that this is leading to divisions and misunderstandings. He highlights that the North Central region has not had the opportunity to lead the country for a long time and that this is a source of frustration for the people in the region.

He said, "The agitation for power shift is what is creating tension and all these agitations are because of our names and our religion. If you are Ali, it is believed that you are from the North. If you are Obafemi it is believed that you are from the South-West and if you are Obi, it is believed that you come from the South-East. I am from the North Central and the North Central is agitating for power to shift because the zone is one geopolitical region that has not taken a shot at the presidency for long."
