A section of Kenyans online has ganged up against South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro over what he said about Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Taking to his X account on Thursday morning, MP Osoro responded to comments made by Sifuna while speaking in the Senate on Wednesday.
"When I Deputy Minority Whip I was shocked at the amount of money that is on my ETC card for my Parliamentary car. As of this morning, when I used that same car to come here, there is Sh377,000 on my ETC card," Sifuna said while on the floor of the Senate.
However, Osoro dismissed Sifuna's statement as populist and hypocritical. Osoro said the Nairobi senator is not being honest because if he was, he would have protested about the large sum of money on his ETC card immediately after being sworn in office in 2022.
However, MP Osoro's sentiments did not augur well with a majority of Kenyans who took to the comments section to side with Senator Sifuna.
According to some netizens, it doesn't matter if Sifuna was okay with the huge allocations on his ETC card two years ago, what matters is that he has now revealed where the government spends money unnecessarily.
Some Kenyans urged Osoro to stop reprimanding Sifuna and give alternative ways in which the government can reduce its expenditure.
"At east Sifuna was honest to spill the beans, @Osoro, could you have spoken," one netizen responded to Osoro.
"Confessions are made when one realises they are sinners, Sifuna has realised. We are waiting for your confession. But here you are acting the forgiver who won’t forgive. Confess too," another Kenyan told the South Mugirango MP.
"Instead of reprimanding Sifuna, tell us the unnecessary spending that needs to be trimmed. Can you accept a salary cut?" a netizen asked the lawmaker.
"You are now justifying impunity. People get saved when they finally accept to see Jesus. He has just accepted Jesus as his personal savior," added another Kenyan on X.
"Better late than never. For you even after this corrupt act is exposed you are still protecting it?you are rotten indeed," a netizen commented.
"This is the problem with people who have been given opportunities to serve ,they don't want to accept facts. Senator Sifuna is only requesting cutting of unnecessary expenditure and allocations for Staff of The Legislature," another X user told off MP Osoro.
