No Hiding Place for Criminals: Anambra’s New Security Operation Strikes Hard
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the state. Speaking about the state’s intensified security efforts, Soludo praised the new security operation, Operation Udo Ga Achi, led by Agunechemba, for its recent successes as reported by Vanguard.
Soludo confirmed that a recent operation in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South LGA, led to the killing of 15 criminals and the capture of 13 others. He also announced the arrest of six individuals involved in the kidnapping and murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a state lawmaker. Azuka was abducted in Onitsha on Christmas Eve, and his body was later discovered near the Second Niger Bridge.
Reflecting on past security challenges, Soludo recalled that, upon assuming office, eight local government areas were under siege, with political campaigns in those regions impossible due to insecurity. He emphasized that significant progress has been made in reclaiming these areas. However, he acknowledged ongoing battles in a location known as the "Mother Valley," where criminals continue to regroup despite multiple airstrikes.
The governor also highlighted new security measures, including the Homeland Security Law, which criminalizes unexplained wealth and holds landlords accountable for harboring criminals. Additionally, properties used for drug-related crimes will be demolished.
Senator Victor Umeh condemned Azuka’s murder and urged Anambra residents to support the government’s fight against crime. He extended condolences to Azuka’s family, the Anambra State House of Assembly, and the people of Onitsha.
Soludo assured residents that his administration remains resolute in its mission to restore peace, urging traditional rulers and citizens to collaborate in securing the state.
