In a report shared today by The Sun, Senator Adams Oshiomhole spoke about the poor treatment of prisoners and highlighted serious issues within the prison system. He mentioned that, sadly, prisoners are treated worse than dogs.

Oshiomhole said out of 80,000 prisoners in Nigeria, half are still waiting for their trials. He pointed out that according to the law, people are innocent until proven guilty. He also criticized the abuse of power by some people who use their connections with police officers to oppress others. He shared that these powerful individuals can make life extremely difficult for people through their influence over high-ranking police officers. He emphasized that prisons should be places where wrongdoers are corrected, not where people are killed

In Oshiomhole's words: "We even take care of dogs better than Nigerian prisoners. The bad news is that out of the 80,000 prisoners, 50 percent are awaiting trial. In our laws, you are presumed innocent until found guilty. Oppression is the name of the game. A person will tell you that I will teach you a lesson, and with the connection of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), he can teach you more lessons than you can ever imagine"
