2027: I Believe Atiku Can Be President, But It Is After Tinubu Has Finished Eight Years —Shehu Sani

In an exclusive interview with The Sun in Abuja, Senator Shehu Sani, a well-known human rights crusader and public commentator, has shared his views on Nigeria's political situation.

He particularly focused on the possibility of Atiku Abubakar becoming the president of Nigeria.

When asked about Atiku's chances of becoming president, Sani expressed his thoughts, stating that Atiku can be president of Nigeria.

He underlined the importance of Atiku considering the current political realities and prioritizing the country's needs over his personal ambitions.

Senator Sani expressed concerns about the potential disruption to Nigeria's political stability if the North seeks to regain power in 2027.

He argued that it would be in the North's best interest to wait until the South completes its eight-year term before claiming the presidency.

He highlighted the importance of adhering to the power rotation agreement, which has historically helped maintain political balance in Nigeria.

He concluded by confirming his belief that Atiku has the potential to become president, but only after the South has completed its term.

"Well, Atiku can be president of Nigeria. It is possible to be after the South has finished their eight-year term and I believe it will be in his best interest for him to look at the realities that are today and then, think of the country rather than his ambition. He is a man of experience, one who has been through a very long period of Nigeria’s journey. And I believe that his experience will help the country and help him to be able to address the problems that we face today or in the future."

"But if at this juncture, the North is thinking of taking over power in 2027, then, it is going to unsettle Nigeria’s political calculation. The North voted for Obasanjo and when Obasanjo was going, he returned power to Northern Nigeria and the attempt to breach the rotation formula in 2015, caused the PDP to be out of power. So, to me, I believe that Atiku can be president, but it is after the South has finished their eight years," he said.
