On 30th June, 2024 the former Nigerian Senator representing Kaduna State Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani during an interview with Channels Television while reacting to the current security challenges facing the country, especially the Northern parts of the country, revealed that political power had been toxic to the Northerners because they failed to used it for the benefit of the good people of the Northern parts of the country for a very long time.
According to Channels Television, the former Nigerian Senator representing Kaduna State Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani said "We have some of the richest businessmen and politicians in the country, but the level of poverty you have seen is a reflection of what leadership and opportunity were used for. In all indices, the north lacks behind. Sometimes you ask what all these powers are being used for. If any person will compare what is happening in the north and the southern part of Nigeria will wonder what power is being used for. Power has been toxic to our people. It has not been used for the benefit of our people for a very long time.”
Senator Shehu Sani added that the current situation in the Northern parts of Nigeria today was a product of the failure of Governance and Leadership during the administration of the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. He also added that the prominent Northern politicians were supposed to use their political power to improve the economy, better the lives of the people of the region, and address the problems of poverty, destitution, and underdevelopment, but they did not utilize such political power for the development and progress of the Northern region.
