The former Senate President, Chief Aldophus Wabara, has disclosed that he resigned and that Obasanjo did not remove him from office. To be clear, he refuted reports that he was being pressured to resign. He added that he was doubtful after finding out that his other senators were receiving offers of bribery totaling 50 million naira. According to him, they were bought off to endorse a president running for a third term in office.

Adolphus Wabara talked about these issues in an interview with Nigerian journalist and media personality Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie. Recently, someone uploaded this video to the internet. In the video, he claimed to have turned down a payment of 250 million naira in exchange for pushing for a third term. He continued by saying that each senator was getting 50 million naira to help achieve this goal.

While asserting his willingness to resign from the Senate President's position, Aldophus Wabara said, "When they said they were distributing 50 million naira per senator to support the third term, I did not believe it. I resigned; Obasanjo did not remove me. There was no pressure on me to resign."
