FCT: Kugbo Bus Terminal Will Reduce Insecurity–Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has highlighted the importance of the recently flagged-off taxi and bus terminal in Abuja.

Wike spoke during the flag-off of the construction of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal in the Karu District of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The FCT Minister, while also noting the discomfort experienced by commuters in the FCT, especially during the rainy season and the attendant loss of man hours, due to the absence of public transportation infrastructure, said the provision of the bus terminal will make commuting in the FCT a more pleasurable experience and will also improve security.

Kenya Police Clash With Protesters As Tax Bill Unrest Continues

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters across Kenya as demonstrations against a controversial finance bill continue, even after the president said he would not sign it.

In the capital city, Nairobi, riot police fired tear gas and charged at protesters on Tuesday.

Hundreds of protesters marched through Mombasa, Kenya’s second-largest city. Some carried palm fronds, blew on plastic horns and beat on drums, chanting “Ruto must go!”

There were smaller rallies in the cities of Kisumu, Nakuru and Nyeri.

Reps Move To Create Additional State In South East

The House of Representatives has introduced a bill seeking the creation of an additional state to be called Etiti State in the South East.

The bill, titled: “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2024 (HB. 1525), was sponsored by Rep Amobi Godwin Ogah and four others and passed first reading at the plenary on Tuesday.

The co-sponsors included Rep Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha (Okigwe/Onuimo); Rep Kama Nkemkama; Rep Princess Chinwe Nnabuife and Rep Anayo Onwuegbu.

The bill seeks to alter three sections of the 1999 Constitution to delete the word 36 and replace it with 37 to accommodate the new state and to insert the word Etiti immediately after Enugu in the list of states contained in the constitution.

Nnamdi Kanu: Shehu Sani applauds Southeast govs’ planned meeting with Tinubu

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has commended the Southeast over plans to visit President Bola Tinubu to discuss the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Southeast governors met on Tuesday in Enugu.

During the meeting, it was agreed that they would visit Tinubu to discuss Kanu’s incarceration. This was part of the resolutions reached at the meeting and made public by the chairman of the forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Reacting, Sani posted in X: “The South East governors’ visit to the President over Kanu’s matter is a good and commendable step. It’s an opportunity to explore a political solution.

“No price is too high for a genuine and guaranteed peace. The nation cannot sleep well on a three-legged bed.”
