Benin coach Gernot Rohr is oozing with confidence after his team was drawn in the same group as Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to Soccernet. Despite acknowledging the difficulty of the group, Rohr believes his team has what it takes to come out on top.

Speaking after the draw, Rohr said, “It’s a difficult draw, because there’s Nigeria again. And we have Rwanda, an adversary that we know well and of whom we are wary. There is also Libya who have a good team, it will be a difficult trip there.”

However, the Benin coach remained bullish about his team’s chances, citing their recent win over Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “Another reunion with Nigeria. That’s going to be three more games with them [including the upcoming second leg, counting for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers]. It’s a reunion against a very good team. But we gained confidence and we know we can beat them.”

Rohr’s confidence is not unfounded, as Benin has shown impressive form in recent matches. Their 2-1 win over Nigeria in June was a testament to their growing strength and determination.

With the top two teams from each group qualifying for the 2025 AFCON, Benin will be looking to capitalize on their recent success and make a strong push for qualification. And with Rohr at the helm, they have a coach who knows what it takes to succeed in African football.

As the qualifiers approach, fans can expect a thrilling contest between Benin and Nigeria, with Rohr’s confidence likely to inspire his team to push for victory.
