Former Deputy National Chairman, South-West of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has reiterated the pressing need for the introduction of state police to combat escalating insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George emphasized that decentralized policing would effectively address insurgency and other security challenges plaguing the nation.

Citing the recommendations of a constitutional conference committee led by former President Goodluck Jonathan, George argued that the urgency of implementing state police cannot be overstated.

According to Channels Television, he highlighted the advantage of local law enforcement familiar with community dynamics, asserting they would be more adept at maintaining peace and security.

"In times of insurgency and insecurity, having people within their communities to police them is crucial," George stated, stressing the familiarity of local police with cultural norms and community rules.

He advocated that this approach would enhance security operations and mitigate the threat posed by unidentified insurgents blending into communities.
