In a recent statement, former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, has shared his views on the recent Supreme Court ruling granting local government autonomy.

Fayose expressed his thoughts during an appearance on Sunday Politics program on Channels TV.

The Supreme Court's decision to grant autonomy to local governments aims to provide more independence and reduce the influence of state governments.

This ruling is seen as an important move towards decentralizing power and promoting local governance.

Despite this, Fayose believes the relationship between governors and local government chairmen will remain strong.

He argues that governors still play a crucial role in the political process at the local level.

Fayose also touched on the practical aspects of implementing this ruling.

He highlighted the challenges that local governments may face in becoming truly autonomous.

"You cannot take the baby from the mother. There is nobody that will become council chairman without the governor. Anybody telling you otherwise is wasting his time,'' Fayose said.
