Nigerian Army Troops Repel IPOB Attack on Ebonyi Police Station, Neutralize Five Assailants

Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed in Ebonyi State have thwarted an attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Isheke Police Station. The attackers reportedly invaded the station, setting fire to the facility and several vehicles on the premises.

In a statement posted on Thursday on X.com, the Army reported that its troops, upon arriving at the scene, engaged the IPOB fighters in a gunfight. The Army stated that the attackers were overpowered, resulting in the death of five assailants, while the rest fled.

"Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a swift and decisive response, have repelled an attack on Isheke Police Station by suspected IPOB terrorists, who torched the facility and several vehicles. Upon arrival, our troops launched a counter-attack, forcing the terrorists to flee in disarray. In a hot pursuit and intense gun battle, five suspected terrorists were neutralized, and several weapons were seized," the statement read.

The recovered weapons included one PKT machine gun with a link belt containing 94 rounds of ammunition, two AK-47 rifles with three magazines containing 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and one submachine gun with a magazine. Additionally, a Sienna SUV with registration number Ebonyi CHR-364JC was recovered.

"The Nigerian Army will continue to work in synergy with sister services and other security agencies to combat the activities of IPOB and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). We urge all law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the security agencies," the post added.
