A group, Kogi Conscience Liberation Movement (KCLM), on Monday staged a rally at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters, demanding the recovery of looted funds and prosecution of corrupt officials.

Led by Comrade Jacob Okpanachi, Secretary of KCLM, and Desmond Obaro, the group bore placards with inscriptions such as ‘Kill Corruption before it kills Nigeria’, ‘Corruption is cancer to democracy’, among others.

Addressing the crowd, Okpanachi urged the EFCC to intensify its efforts in combating corruption, particularly in Kogi State, where they alleged that billions of naira had been embezzled by former government officials.

News Source: Daily Trust

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has described the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as a party of failed politicians.

Speaking while addressing a coalition of support groups who were at the APC national secretariat on a solidarity visit, he alleged that NNPP leaders were sponsoring protest as part of efforts to remove him as APC helmsman.

The former Kano State governor specifically said some bigwigs in the NNPP were eyeing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s seat, but stressed they would not get it as Tinubu would run and win a second term of office.

He said, “They are so afraid because we are consolidating. They are so afraid all over the country because we are receiving new entrants into our party. That is creating fears in their minds.

News Source: Channels TV

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has accused the Federal Government of pandering to the whims and caprices of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank following a hike in electricity tariff.

Falana claimed that the move is a policy imposed on the Nigerian government by the Bretton Wood institutions.

“The Honourable Minister of Power is acting the script of the IMF and the World Bank,” Falana said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

“Those two agencies insisted and they continue to insist that the government of Nigeria must remove all subsidies. Fuel subsidy, electricity subsidy and what have you; all social services must be commercialised and priced beyond the reach of the majority of Nigerians.

Central Bank Of Nigeria Bans Moniepoint, Opay, Kuda, Others From Taking New Customers Over Cryptocurrency

News Source: Sahara Reporters

The Central Bank of Nigeria has barred some microfinance banks, including Moniepoint, Opay and Kuda, from opening new accounts and accepting new customers.

The ban is over allegations that they were being used to funnel cryptocurrency and manipulate the naira’s value, sources familiar told Peoples Gazette on Monday.

Sources asserted that the CBN deemed the new-account-ban necessary to curb money-laundering activities which have seen the naira again plunge against the dollar in recent days.

The naira, as of Monday evening, traded at N1350 against the dollar, which is a regression against the steady climb that the Nigerian currency has made over the past few weeks as it traded to N950 in early April.
