JUST IN: ECOWAS Heads Meeting Begins in Abuja

As President Bola Tinubu's tenure as Chairman of ECOWAS ends on July 9, 2024, leaders from 12 member states are meeting in Abuja for the 63rd Ordinary Summit. The meeting, starting at 1 pm, may announce a new chair, though there's a possibility of extending Tinubu’s tenure to help reintegrate Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso into the bloc.

NASU, SSANU to Commence Nationwide Protest, Monday

NASU and SSANU will start a nationwide protest on July 8, 2024, due to unresolved issues with the Ministers of Education and Labour. The protest aims to address withheld salaries and other grievances. A national protest is planned for July 18 in Abuja. The unions expressed disappointment in the government's lack of commitment to resolving their concerns and outlined a series of planned industrial actions.
