The former Minister of State for Power and Steel, Mallam Murtala Aliyu, during an interview with The Punch, shared his thoughts on the lingering issue in the power and steel sector, electricity tariff hike, the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, among other issues.

When he was speaking on the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, over a budget padding allegation he made against some senators in the National Assembly, Murtala Aliyu said that the Senate has its own rules, but suspending a member or a senator is not the right thing to do in the case of Senator Abdul Ningi.

He said, "Senators Ali Ndume and Dino Melaye were suspended before. It is not the right thing. They should be able to show themselves, face the challenge, discuss the matters, and get it right for the benefit of the country. It is the opposite of it. The issue of suspending a representative is not the best."

Further talking, Murtala Aliyu said that if an issue is raised by a member of the House, then they should interrogate the person and if the allegation is wrong, the person should apologise to them.

He said if any member of the House comes out to make a wrong statement, then the person should come out in the public and apologise to the House for dishing out wrong information.

He added, "As for the National Assembly, they should just put a stop to suspending members or pushing them out and so on."
