On Tuesday, July 2, the General Service Unit's paramilitary Recce Squad was sent in as a backup to a building in Nairobi. The GSU special team was reportedly called in to capture a sniper who was allegedly firing from a high vantage point.

A police officer was allegedly shot and killed by the sniper. According to media accounts from the Moi Avenue scene, the squad entered the building by marching and blocked all of the exits.

After the Recce Squad blocked off the area, the sniper—who was restricted to the building's second floor—was unable to flee. Within twenty minutes, the Recce Squad was said to have completed its quick operation, entering and exiting the structure.

There was also speculation at the scene by media sources that the sniper might have been a policeman. The strange occurrence hasn't been confirmed or updated by the police, though.

Among the noteworthy events that transpired on Tuesday during the protests is the incident. An intriguing development is that looting occurred during Tuesday's rallies in a number of different parts of the nation.
