Vanguard News report that, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed strong reservations about the recent changes to the traditional kingmaking process in Kano. He lamented the creation of a new kingmaker position, which he believes undermines the authority of the original kingmaking families - Yolawa, Madakin, Jobawa, and Makama. These families have played a crucial role in the selection of emirs for centuries, based on their historical lineage and cultural heritage.

The Emir emphasized the significance of respecting and honoring the traditional norms and customs that have shaped the Kano kingdom for generations. He warned that the recent changes, which sideline the original kingmaking families, risk disenfranchising the rightful heirs to the throne and undermining the integrity of the kingdom's institutions.

The Emir's concerns are rooted in the historical significance of the kingmaking families, who have played a pivotal role in the selection of emirs based on their wisdom, courage, and dedication to the kingdom. He argued that the recent legislative interventions, which disregard traditional norms, threaten to erode the very foundations of the Kano kingdom's cultural heritage.

In his call to action, the Emir urged for a collective commitment to preserving the revered traditions of the Kano kingdom, honoring the wisdom and sacrifices of the founding kingmaking families, and ensuring the continuation of the kingdom's rich cultural heritage for generations to come.
