The 2 executive directors of NNPC are Northerners, people who do not produce oil–Obiuwevbi Ominimini

opera.com 2 days ago

In a straightforward interview on Arise TV, the National Chairman of Urhobo Oil and Gas Nationality, Obiuwevbi Ominimini, underscored the Urhobo ethnic group's major contribution to Nigeria's oil and gas production, highlighting over 350 active oil wells and numerous gas and crude oil pipelines traversing their territory.

He mentioned that despite their significant role in supporting the Nigerian economy, the Urhobo people feel neglected and underrepresented in the nation's oil and gas sector.

As an illustration, he noted the absence of Urhobo representatives on the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), even though Urhobo's oil and gas output exceeds that of Imo, Edo, and Ondo combined.

He stressed that this lack of representation and acknowledgment has caused dissatisfaction among the Urhobo community, who believe they deserve a more substantial role in the decision-making processes concerning the oil and gas industry.

During an interview on Arise Television, He remarked, "Oil and gas sustain the Nigerian economy and Urhobo ethnic nationality produces high quantum in oil and gas. Infact, today we have over 350 producing oil well producing high quantities. And the Urhobo is crisscrossed with a lot of gas and crude oil pipeline. But today in the Nigerian project, we are nowhere to be found. For example, look at the composition of the board of NNPC where you have the two executive directors as Northerners, people who do not produce oil and gas. Meanwhile, the Urhobo nationality that produces oil and gas in large quantities, what Urhobos produce alone is more than Imo, Edo and Ondo put together, that tells you the quantum of oil we produce, we don't have a sitting member in the board of NNPC."
