According to the report from the Sun, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Sidney Dike identified both the operator and the system as problematic, citing an example of inequality between Kano and Lagos states.
He noted that while Lagos State has a larger population than Kano State, the latter has more than double the number of local government areas, which raises concerns about equitable distribution of resources and political representation.
Drawing on the wisdom of former Eastern Region Premier, Dr. M. I. Okpara, he questioned whether democracy should prioritize landmass or population, emphasizing the enduring relevance of this question in contemporary political discourse.
He said, "Both the operator and the system are the issue here. Look at it; everybody will make haste to compare the injustice between Kano and Lagos State. Lagos State has a population greater than Kano State, arguably, but Kano has 44 local government areas but Lagos has only 20. How can you progress this way? Dr M. I Okpara, Premier of the Eastern Region normally asked during his time, is democracy over landmass or over people? Nobody has been able to answer this question till today."
