According to the report from the Vanguard, Former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and other people still in detention. Obi emphasized the need for the government to adhere to the rule of law and respect the court's decision to grant Kanu bail. He urged the government to release all those in similar conditions and engage in discussions with them, emphasizing that Nigeria is a democratic nation that should uphold the principles of justice and the rule of law.

In addition to addressing the issue of Kanu's detention, Obi also highlighted the urgent need for Nigerian leaders to prioritize the security of lives and property. He expressed concern over the increasing insecurity in the country, citing daily reports of killings, abductions, and kidnappings. Obi emphasized that security is the foundation on which people can live in any nation, and it requires immediate attention.

Obi further addressed the state of insecurity in the South East and urged the governors of the region to come together to tackle the problem. He called for unity and collaboration among the governors, emphasizing the importance of working closely with security agencies and vigilante groups to achieve the desired objective. Obi, drawing from his experience as a former governor, encouraged the governors to seek the input of those who have previously held similar positions to chart a way forward.

Regarding protests, Obi expressed his support for peaceful demonstrations but condemned riots and the destruction of government assets. He stressed the importance of articulating the purpose of protests and directing them towards meaningful change. Obi recalled the #EndSARS protests and emphasized the need to address leadership issues rather than solely focusing on the actions of individual agents. He called for the release of all those held in connection with protests, emphasizing the freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest in a democratic nation.
