Nigeria Owes Southeast One More State – Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain, stated that Nigeria owes the Southeast one more state. His comment followed the bill for Adada State, which passed its first reading in the Senate, sponsored by Senator Okey Ezea. Another bill proposing Etiti State, involving parts of Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi States, passed its first reading in the House of Representatives. If approved, Etiti will have 11 Local Government Areas with Lokpanta as its capital.

Fasuba Calls For AFN Overhaul

Olusoji Fasuba, former African record holder in men’s 100m, has urged for a complete overhaul of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), criticizing officials focused solely on retaining positions. Fasuba highlighted Nigeria's recent third-place finish at the African Senior Athletics Championships and stressed the need to prioritize continental success over Olympic ambitions. He emphasized the importance of leadership capable of guiding Nigerian athletes to excel at both regional and global levels. Fasuba, a multiple African champion, called for a renewed strategic approach to foster athletic excellence in Nigeria.

Three India nationals victims of Ijebu Ode kidnap – Police

Three Indian nationals were kidnapped along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway, according to the Ogun State Police Command. The incident occurred when gunmen abducted travellers, including the Indians, after trailing a vehicle to a secluded area. One victim managed to escape after being shot in the knee and is receiving treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. The police are actively investigating the incident.

N6tr public power revenue will guarantee stable power, says minister

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the significant financial burden Nigerians bear due to inadequate public power supply, with expenditures on self-generated electricity reaching N30 trillion annually. Speaking at the 2024 Nigerian Oil and Gas conference in Abuja, he emphasized the need for reforms and increased investments in the national grid. Adelabu proposed that boosting public power revenue to N6 trillion could ensure stable electricity nationwide, contrasting this with the current N1 trillion annual revenue of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). He underscored the cost-effectiveness of remaining connected to the national grid despite tariff differences, citing restored confidence among manufacturers.
