Former Consultant To The Rivers State Government Ministry of Power, Mr. Lateef Onikoyi has talked about the most recent collapse of the national grid which denied Nigerians power supply for a few days.

He explained that there are quite a number of things that can cause this constant collapse of the Nigerian National Grid which we have witnessed severally this year. Mr. Lateef Onikoyi was also of the opinion that this issue wasn't a serious national grid collapse because it was quickly restored to serve the need of the people.

According to him, we are supposed to have a minimum of 40,000 to 50,000 megawatt to supply constant electricity to Nigerians without the inclusion of industrialization. He made it quite clear that we are presently managing a 4,000 megawatt electricity system which isn't capable of sustaining a country like Nigeria.

During the course of his interview with Arise News Television on Monday, he said: "I want us to be factual, I am not trying to defend the grid system or the system operators but is any system working in Nigeria today? Which system has not collapsed?. Has the roads not collapsed, do you have pipe borne water in your houses?. For example we need at least if we talk about the basic needs in terms of electricity in Nigeria we need at least 40,000 to 50,000 megawatt not considering industrialization just the basic need".
