In a recent report by The Punch, Chief Edwin Clark, a National Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, affirmed the close and trusting relationship between Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, and Siminalayi Fubara, the current Accountant General of the state. Clark compared their bond to that of a father and son, emphasizing the depth of their connection.

Clark revealed that this strong relationship was the reason behind Wike appointing Fubara as the Accountant General, entrusting him with overseeing the state's finances. "Wike trusted him so much that he made him accountant general so that he would look after the state’s money," Clark stated, underscoring the significant trust Wike placed in Fubara.

The Elder Statesman also mentioned the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in attempting to arrest Wike. However, Wike's immunity as governor protected him from arrest. "Several times the EFCC wanted to arrest Wike but because he enjoyed immunity, they couldn’t," Clark explained.

In response, the EFCC targeted Fubara and other individuals close to Wike. According to Clark, Wike intervened to protect them, preventing the EFCC from making arrests. This intervention has led to an ongoing legal case. "So, they decided to arrest the accountant general and some others. But Wike protected them and prevented the EFCC from going in. I think there is a case in court to that effect," Clark noted.
