Amidst the political crisis in Rivers State involving the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike; a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has admitted that there has always been issues between the predecessor and the successor in the state. Abe however said this is the first time a predecessor will successfully install his own successor in the state.

Speaking in an interview on TVC, Senator Magnus Abe said, “This is the first time in the history of Rivers State that an outgoing Governor was able to successfully install his own successor. Dr Odili had issues with Amaechi and it was clear that even though he nominated him, he didn’t see him through to the process that put him in the executive Governor’s office. And so that was what caused their separation.

In the case of Amaechi and Wike, Amaechi had no hand in how Wike became Governor. So you are right that we have always had issues between the outgoing Governor and the successor. But we’ve never had a situation where an outgoing Governor successfully installed a successor. This is first time that is happening.”

Speaking further, Senator Abe said he still thinks that there is still hope and possibility that the crisis between Fubara and Wike can be resolved.
