During an interview with media, Salihu Lukman, the former Vice National Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), voiced his worries regarding President Bola Tinubu's leadership. According to The Sun, he criticized President Tinubu for making decisions without thoroughly understanding the ramifications and characterized Tinubu's administration as regressive.

Lukman advised Tinubu to examine his cabinet and those in his immediate vicinity in order to strengthen his leadership. He noted that Tinubu was surrounded by capable and level-headed people who could keep him from making bad mistakes throughout his tenure as Lagos State's governor from 1999 to 2007. But Lukman contended that Tinubu's current entourage only shares his preferences, which he considered unfit for a leader and certain to fail.

Lukman underlined that he wants Tinubu to be successful because it is beneficial for the country. He saw a Nigerian leader who would be revered for decades, much like Americans do with George Washington.

To quote him: “I think President Bola Tinubu needs to audit his cabinet. He needs to audit the people around him. I made this point somewhere that the President Bola Tinubu that we have now is not the same as Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu that ruled Lagos State between 1999 and 2007 because Asiwaju that ruled Lagos State surrounded himself with very competent and clear-headed people.”

“I don’t want Asiwaju to fail. I want him to succeed because it’s in our interest for him to succeed. As a nation we are hungry for a leader who in 200 years to come the citizens of Nigeria will be celebrating that leader just like Americans are celebrating George Washington.”
