Edo Poll: PDP, APC Gov Aspirants Dump Parties

Dr. Felix Akhabue, a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, resigned from the party citing prejudicial activities by the party's leadership. He addressed his resignation letter to the Ward Chairman of PDP Ward 7, Esan West Local Government Area, copying other party officials. Similarly, Dr. Victoria Amu, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, resigned from the party for personal and family reasons. She expressed gratitude for past opportunities within the party, including roles as Special Assistant and previous electoral runs under the APC.

Ex-NBA Guard Darius Morris is Dead

Darius Morris, a former NBA point guard known for his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and other teams, has passed away at the age of 33. His family confirmed the news, requesting privacy during this difficult time. Morris was a standout college player at Michigan before entering the NBA in 2011. He played for several teams during his career, including the Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. The basketball community mourns his loss.

LASG removes more shanties under bridge, residents demand extension

The Lagos State Government conducted another round of shanty removals beneath the Adeniji Adele bridge in Lagos Island. This exercise, led by the joint task force of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences team, followed the expiration of a vacation notice.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared updates on the operation, highlighting the removal of shanties and makeshift structures. Some residents have called for similar actions under other bridges due to concerns over criminal activities and safety. They urged regular monitoring to prevent the re-emergence of illegal structures, citing instances of government officials re-allotting spaces after removals.

Three to die for armed robbery, ally jailed 10 years

Three individuals, Oyebanji Sola, Jimoh Azeez, and Ogunlade Babatunde, were sentenced to death by hanging by an Ekiti State High Court for their involvement in armed robbery. Another individual, Babalola Bidemi, received a 10-year prison sentence for receiving stolen goods. Akinwale Oluwaseun was acquitted of all charges. The case involved a robbery where items including phones, a television, and cash were stolen at gunpoint. The court found the three guilty defendants to be part of the robbery and sentenced them accordingly, while one was acquitted and another received a lesser sentence for involvement in receiving stolen goods.
