If Jonathan had removed the fuel subsidy at that time, Nigeria would have been a better place–GRV

According to the Sun, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who is running for governor of Lagos State as a Labour Party candidate in the 2023 election, has accused some politicians of putting their own interests ahead of the public good. He cited a case in point where the previous governor of Ekiti State conceded that political considerations prevented the fuel subsidy from being eliminated.

Despite the apparent short-term political benefits, Rhodes-Vivour suggested that the nation would suffer in the long run if necessary acts, such as eliminating the gasoline subsidy, are neglected."You must have seen a video of the former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, talking about how they understood that petrol subsidy had to be eliminated, but they "sabotaged it because it's politics," he said in an interview with The Sun.

The interest of the people must always be considered, even when engaging in politics. Nigeria would be in a better position now if previous President Goodluck Jonathan had kept his policies in place and eliminated the fuel subsidy.
