EFCC Sets Up Team to Investigate El-Rufai, Others Over Alleged N423bn Fraud

The anti-corruption agency EFCC has assembled a team to investigate former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his associates over an alleged misappropriation of 423 billion Nigerian Naira.

According to Sahara Reporters, this investigation follows a recommendation from the Kaduna State House of Assembly to probe El-Rufai for abuse of power and money laundering during his time in office.

The state lawmakers found that most of the loans obtained under El-Rufai's leadership were not used for their stated purposes, and that proper procedures were not always followed in securing these loans. They claim his administration siphoned off a total of 423 billion Naira, leaving the state heavily indebted.

Sahara Reporters also stated that, alongside investigating El-Rufai, the lawmakers have called for probes into various former finance officials, tax authorities, and company executives who operated under the previous Kaduna government. This includes examining 36 billion Naira in allegedly improper contract payments made by El-Rufai's team.

Overall, the EFCC has been tasked with thoroughly examining the financial conduct and decisions of the former Kaduna governor and his administration, in response to lawmakers' concerns over widespread abuse and mismanagement of public funds.
