"The Law Says Thou Shall Spend 3 years" —Femi Falana tells LG Chairmen, Reveals Their Only Advantage

opera.com 6 days ago

Renowned lawyer Femi Falana has advised local government chairmen to respect the legal term limits and prepare for fresh elections. In an Arise TV interview, Falana emphasised that the law mandates a three-year tenure, which has expired, and urged the local chairmen of Rivers State to seek re-election.

He stressed that attempting to extend their terms is unconstitutional and futile. Falana revealed that he cannot speak more on the issue of the local government chairmen and the 27 lawmakers who defected because the matter is already before the court of law.

Falana also criticised the Rivers State government for their decision to appoint a caretaker committee to take charge of the local governments.

According to him, "The law says thou shall spend three years, and the three years have expired, so what you should do is get ready to contest the next round of elections. That will be the best advice."
