The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that a former governor and two former ministers are behind a series of protests against the anti-graft agency.

It said despite the planned protests its operatives would continue to do their work no matter whose ox is gored.

According to The Nation, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency's spokesperson, revealed this while answering journalists' queries at a press conference arranged by the Strategic Communications Inter-agency Policy Committee (SCIPC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

The anti-graft agency warned Nigerians on Wednesday that "a shadowy group" was planning a protest against the commission, and that it was already working with sister security agencies to deal with potential threats to Nigeria's peace and security.

Responding to a question at the briefing about the main issue that spurred the planned demonstration, Oyewale stated that the commission's operations were already hurting certain "looters of the commonwealth".

He stated: "In general and holistically, all of these people who are talking about terminating the EFCC, don't end the EFCC, kill the EFCC, don't kill the EFCC, are people who are indirectly affected by the commission's actions.
