Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party's candidate in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, has called for unity among opposition parties in the run-up to the 2027 elections. In a report by The Sun, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized the importance of forming a coalition to present a viable alternative to the current administration.

Rhodes-Vivour pointed out that by combining the votes of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar from the last election, it becomes evident that the opposition has the potential to surpass the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). "I think the wise thing for us to do as opposition parties is to come together. It will be very foolish to enter another election as separate political parties," he stated.

He highlighted that the combined votes of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar exceeded those of President Bola Tinubu by approximately four million votes, demonstrating the strength of a united opposition. "If you add the votes that Peter Obi got in the last election to the one that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar got, they surpass the votes got by President Bola Tinubu by about four million. So it will not make sense for us to go into the 2027 election divided," Rhodes-Vivour explained.
