The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned to 17th July, 2024 the hearing of the case filed by a former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, against the State House of Assembly and the Attorney General of the State.

According to daily trust, El-Rufai is challenging the house’s committee report which accused him of corruption.

At the start of the hearing on Monday, counsel for the first respondent, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Sani Katu, SAN, informed the court that they were in the process of submitting a notice of preliminary objection challenging the court's jurisdiction to hear the case.

The attorney, as a result, requested an extension of time to allow them to file all of their applications in the lawsuit brought against his client by the petitioner, Nasir El-Rufai.

The plea was also presented by Kaduna State's Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Sule Shauaibu, SAN, who is a defendant in the case.

Sule Umoru, the applicant's counsel, did not oppose the plea for an extension of time.

After hearing the counsels' remarks, the sitting court, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, delayed the case until July 17, 2024, to allow the respondents to file all of their petitions, including the substantive application.

Recall that on June 26, 2024, El-Rufai filed a petition in the Federal High Court Kaduna to contest the Kaduna State House of Assembly's inquiry report, which accused him for corruption throughout his eight-year government.

Among other arguments, he urged the court to declare the Assembly report null and void for violating his constitutional right to a fair hearing by not inviting him to defend himself against all of the allegations levied against him.
