Having been forced to make top Kenya Defence Forces promotions and appointments twice in less than two months, President William Ruto may once again be forced to make other changes possibly by the end of the year.

The first changes in March 2024, were occasioned by the high profile retirements of the then Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt General Jonah Maina Mwangi and the Kenya Army officer of the time Lt General Peter Njiru.

And in May, Ruto was again forced to act and pick new KDF commanders following the death of the Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla in a helicopter crash in April.

Kenya Air Force got a new commander in Major General Fatuma Ahmed with Kenya Navy getting the new boss in Major General Paul Owuor Otieno.

At the same time, Kenya Air Force got a new Deputy Commander in Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir following the promotion and posting of Major General Peter Githinji to the National Defence Forces as Senior Directing Staff, Air.

In the Kenya Air Force headquarters at Moi Air Base Eastleigh, Major General Ahmed is soon hitting the mandatory retirement age of 59 years for officers of her rank. Who will succeed her?

Brigadier Kipkorir is seen as one of the front runners for the position.

By being number two at Kenya Air Force headquarters, the former Moi Air Base Eastleigh commandant is the man to watch in Ruto's future KDF promotions and appointments.
