Kenya recently celebrated a historic first by ceremoniously sending out instructors who were hired by American companies. Amb. Isaiya Kabira, Secretary of Investments & Entrepreneurship, and Ms. Irene Karari, Acting Director of the Skills and Expertise Division, were present at the Saturday event.

The diaspora community's initiative highlights the government of Kenya's continuous efforts to support Kenya's socioeconomic development by generating employment opportunities abroad through the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs reaffirmed its dedication to advancing the well-being of Kenyans living abroad and offering all-encompassing assistance during the transitional phase. Pre-departure training courses are part of this support, helping teachers get ready for their new roles overseas.

Officials from a number of government departments as well as Dr. Peter Ruhiri, CEO of Pesuar International Job Placement Consultancy, attended the event. Their attendance served as a reminder of the coordinated efforts made to guarantee Kenyan teachers are successfully placed in foreign markets.

Since February, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been aggressively investigating abroad job options for Kenyan teachers in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, and other relevant partners.

The TSC Director of Legal, Calvin Anyuor, noted that abroad placements are a useful way to deal with Kenya's teacher shortage at the moment.

Anyuor emphasized the significance of upholding educational standards and pointed out that, in spite of the apparent lower admission requirements compared to professions like medicine or law, teachers sent abroad must nonetheless satisfy global demands.

He emphasized ongoing talks about perhaps sending English teachers from Kenya to teach in Germany, thereby expanding the pool of chances available to teachers.

With plans to hire 46,000 teacher interns on permanent and pensionable terms next year, the TSC now employs over 400,000 instructors. As their two-year contract programs come to a conclusion, these interns play a crucial role in Kenya's educational workforce.

Kenya's plan to send teachers to the US is a calculated move to take use of diaspora networks for the country's development. By looking into foreign work placements, the nation improves opportunities for its educators to participate in worldwide educational exchanges while also addressing internal issues.
