Following the approval of this year's budget, teachers in Kenya will soon see pay increases in the field of education. KSh364.910 billion is scheduled to be given to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), with a portion going for teacher compensation increases that will begin this month.

By the end of July, 26,000 interns are anticipated to become permanent and pensionable (PnP) employees, assuming the education budget plan is approved by parliament. Originally scheduled to begin in January 2025, this shift will now happen sooner and will cost Ksh8.3 billion.

The budget also contains funding for teacher advancements and the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)'s second phase, which modifies house allowances and increases salaries.

However, as a result of intern demonstrations demanding PnP employment in response to a court decision prohibiting internships, Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) have seen disruptions in instruction.

These improvements were emphasized by Julius Melly, the chair of the Education Committee, in a meeting with the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee. He talked about intentions to confirm more interns and provide funds for curriculum implementation and teacher preparation.

The budget also includes funding for a number of educational initiatives, such as the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning Programme and the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQIP) (KPEELP).

In conclusion, the administration hopes to improve teacher welfare and educational standards through these budgetary allotments and policy changes, despite concerns surrounding budget approvals and continuous difficulties in the education sector.
