International Media Reveals Who Ruto Called after Protests Shock His Govt

President William Ruto is reported to have had a discussion with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva after anti- finance bill protests escalated.

Reuters, an international media, reported that Ruto held a telephone call with Ms Georgieva and briefed her on the state of the country.

This was after the withdrawal of the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

IMF has been pushing for reforms in Kenya's tax administration with the main aim of increasing the tax base and enhancing efficient tax utilisation.

As detailed by Ruto, the initial Finance Bill 2024 was going to generate close to Ksh300 billion for the government.

Senators from both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza have urged Ruto to reduce government expenditure.

The lawmakers' calls for reform came as President Ruto himself acknowledged that his Cabinet "could have done better" in helping him run the government.

In a recent interview, the President said he would be doing "soul searching" on how to move the country forward.

Senator Bonny Khalwale asked Ruto to reconstitute the Cabinet, annul unconstitutional offices and do away with advisors he suggested are not necessary for the running of government
