Police have arrested a 38-year-old suspect who is believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate and a 49-year-old Portuguese businessman was rescued.
According to reports, the businessman was kidnapped by suspects and held captive at a house in Snake Park, police received a tip-off from an informant about the whereabouts of where the businessman is being held captive, they followed up on the information and proceeded to the identified address on Monday, 1 July 2024.
Upon arrival, they rescued the victim and arrested one suspect at the scene, it is believed that the suspect cab be linked to at least four other kidnappings where businessmen were the target in the Johannesburg District.
The suspect is currently detained in custody and he will soon appear in court to face charges of extortion and kidnapping, the search for the other suspects who are also part of the kidnapping syndicate is still ongoing.
