Kenyans on social media have angrily reacted after learning of the amount of money President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua receive as house allowances per month.

As reported by Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, the president and his deputy earn a combined KSh. 650,000 as house allowances despite living in state residences.

A gazette notice by the Salaries and Remunerations Commission (SRC) revealed that the Head of State receives KSh. 350,000 while DP Gachagua pockets KSh.300,000 monthly house allowance.

A majority of Kenyans were irked by the SRC's revelation, taking to social media to vent their anger. Some Kenyans wondered why the president and his deputy are entitled to house allowances while they live in government houses.

Some netizens opined that Ruto and Gachagua are not entitled to house allowances since they have their own multiple homes besides their official residences.

Some Kenyans termed the SRC's decision to give a total of KSh. 650,000 to the president and his deputy as house allowances a joke while other netizens termed it madness.

"Absolutely pathetic. They stay in Government houses but still get Housing allowance?," one netizen wondered.

"But they have official residencies. Why the allocations?" another Kenyan posed.

"while they have official residences and multiple homes across the country and abroad, what a joke of a country," said another Kenyan.

"House allowance yet they live in houses maintained by Kenyan taxes? These are the discrepancies we need to be informed about so that we know where we focus on," a netizen commented.

""They live in their official state residences and we still give them house allowance? Madness," an infuriated X user commented.

Others criticised the SRC, calling for its disbandment.

"SRC should be blamed for this reckless wastage of public resources," a Kenyan opined.

"Housing allowance and yet they are provided with official residences? SRC must be scrapped," commented another Kenyan.
