In Nakuru County, the Nyaguthie family is grappling with profound grief after the tragic loss of their son, Michael Kihuga Nyaguthie.

Michael, known affectionately as Mike, was fatally shot three times during protests against the Finance Bill 2024 near State House Nakuru.

The sorrowful event struck just a week after the family had bid farewell to Michael's father, compounding their grief and shock.

Michael, aged 28, was the eldest among his siblings, leaving behind a devastated mother and his brothers and sister.

On July 3rd, the Nyaguthie family gathered to lay Michael to rest at their family home in Kiambogo, Elementaita ward, Gilgil sub-county.

His mother, in a heartfelt tribute, expressed her disbelief at having to bury her son so soon after her husband.

She recalled Michael's birth on August 8, 1996, and spoke of him as a promising individual who had recently opened his own fashion and design shop.

Michael's life journey included education at Hillcrest School and St. Peter Kamumkunji in Eldoret, followed by studies at the Kenya Industrial Training Institute, where he pursued Fashion and Design.

His entrepreneurial spirit had led him to establish his business, marking a hopeful beginning that was tragically cut short.

At Michael's burial, mourners draped themselves in the national flag, and tears flowed freely as they sang the national anthem in his honor.

The community remembered him not only as a victim of circumstances but also as a young man with aspirations and contributions to his community.

The tragedy surrounding Michael's death is part of a broader wave of unrest following the Finance Bill 2024 protests, where several lives have been lost across the country.

Human rights organizations have raised concerns about the use of excessive force by law enforcement during these demonstrations, highlighting the need for dialogue and peaceful resolution.
