There has been pressure on President William Ruto, to reorganize the National Executive in order to improve services to the populace.

On Thursday morning, July 4, the president of state called a Cabinet meeting to order at State House in Nairobi.

Numerous sources have advised Ruto to reduce the size of his purportedly, bloated Cabinet in order to free up funds for wages and benefits to essential government agencies.

On Thursday, July 4, President William Ruto presided over a Cabinet meeting. Through X, State House spokesperson Hussein Momahed disclosed.

As of the time of publication, the meeting's agenda was unclear. As a show of austerity, the senators from Kenya want Ruto to reduce the size of his Cabinet.

Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, the majority leader and representative for Kericho, presented a resolution to the Upper House parliamentarians regarding the recent demonstrations against financial bills.

What advice did senators give Ruto? Regardless of their party affiliations, the senators engaged in a bipartisan demonstration on Wednesday, July 3, to highlight the importance of the protests and the necessity for the president to reevaluate his leadership approach.

Senator Boni Khalwale of Kakamega noted that the lack of funds will ultimately bring Ruto and his administration to an end because the public, is currently eager to resist any attempt to raise taxes in order to make up the deficiencies in the budget.

This came after widespread protests by Kenyan youth led Ruto to reject the heavily taxed Finance Bill 2024. In order to finance the 2024–2025 national budget, the government aimed to generate KSh 346 billion; however, Ruto pointed out that if the finance bill was ruled illegal, the nation would need to borrow about KSh 1 trillion to cover the shortfall.

In order to solve the puzzle, Khalwale advised the president, to think about cutting back on National Executive personnel, in order to reallocate funds intended for salaries, and benefits to other important government obligations.

Khalwale requested that Ruto reorganize the Cabinet, abolish unconstitutional positions, and get rid of advisors he believed weren't essential to the government's operation.
