In a successful operation against ATM bombers, Ekurhuleni Metro Police arrested three suspects in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday, July 3. The arrests were the result of a crime intelligence-driven operation based on information from a reliable source about two houses suspected of harboring criminals specializing in ATM bombings.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokeswoman for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, provided details of the operation:

"Officers raided the first house where two suspects involved in a recent ATM bombing at the corners of Eritrea and Uganda streets in Palm Ridge were found. Officers uncovered detonator explosives and a stolen white Chevrolet light delivery vehicle."

The two suspects arrested at the first location were identified as South African and Mozambican nationals. Upon interrogation, they revealed a second address on Uganda Street, leading to the arrest of a third suspect, also from Mozambique.

At the second location, the police recovered several pieces of evidence: R1,000 in stained notes, Stained jackets

Two stained cellphones, A pair of sneakers, wire cables and a stained 12-volt car battery

The evidence collected suggests a direct link to recent ATM bombings in the area. Lieutenant Colonel Thepa stated that the three suspects, aged between 27 and 43, are facing multiple charges:

"The three suspects are facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of explosives, and possession of stained money."

This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and community cooperation in combating organized crime. The arrests of these suspected ATM bombing experts may significantly impact the prevalence of such crimes in the Ekurhuleni area.
