A Sassa official and two women were arrested for alleged fraud after submitting fraudulent documents for a disability grant. The arrests were made in Limpopo, where the suspects had submitted the altered documents to the Bolobedu Sassa office in Kgapane.

The two women, Mphekgwana Elisa Modjadji and Lefupane Mahloatlie Mamotome, aged 59 and 58 respectively, had initially been denied disability grants as they did not qualify. However, they resubmitted the documents with alterations, enabling their approval.

A capturing clerk suspected fraud and reported the matter to the Hawks' serious corruption investigation unit. The investigation revealed that the handwriting on the documents was that of a Sassa employee, leading to the arrest of Malekutu Walter Ramoshaba, a 48-year-old Sassa official.

The trio is scheduled to return to the Kgapane magistrate's court to face charges of fraud. The case has been postponed for a formal bail application. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of disability grant fraud in South Africa.

In recent years, several Sassa officials have been arrested, charged, and convicted of fraud related to disability grants. The arrest of the Sassa official and two women serves as a reminder that fraud will not be tolerated and that those responsible will face consequences.

The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to ensure that those involved in the fraud are held accountable. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity or suspected fraud to the authorities immediately.
