The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming Edo State governorship election, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has promised to focus on working for the people if elected.

Speaking at the inauguration of the local government and ward campaign councils of Oredo local government area, Okpebholo said, "If elected, my administration would not listen to gossips; we will be there to work for Edo people so that there will be progress in the state."

According to Vanguard newspaper, Okpebholo's statement is seen as a bold declaration of intent, indicating that his administration will prioritize the needs of the people over petty politics and gossip.

The APC candidate also took a swipe at the current governor, Godwin Obaseki, saying, "We are ready to send them packing because they have failed us. I was in the local government of the PDP candidate, and by the time I counted thirty things I have done in his place, they could not point to one thing that he has done for them."

The APC has been gaining momentum in the state, with many political bigwigs defecting to the party. The Director General of the APC Campaign Council, Sen. Matthew Uroghide, expressed confidence in the party's chances, saying, "APC has done enough for the people to win the election, including our candidates who are sitting members of the National Assembly that have been working for their people."
